A Dudhwa safari is done in an open jeep, at dawn or late afternoon, on dusty forest tracks. What you pack decides whether you enjoy the drive or spend it shivering or squinting. This is the checklist we share with our own guests.
What to wear
- Earthy colours: olive, khaki, brown, beige. Bright colours and white stand out to animals.
- Full sleeves and long trousers: for sun, dust and mosquitoes, in every season.
- Closed, comfortable shoes: you will climb in and out of the jeep.
- A scarf or mask: forest tracks get dusty, especially from March.
Winter extras (November to February)
From November to January, days are around 20-25 degrees C, but nights drop to about 10 degrees C or lower, and the morning jeep ride feels much colder.
- Warm jacket, with a thermal or sweater underneath
- Woollen cap and gloves
- A shawl or light blanket to put over your knees in the jeep
- Lip balm and moisturiser

Summer extras (March to June)
- Light cotton, full-sleeve clothes
- Wide-brim cap or hat and sunglasses
- Sunscreen
- A water bottle for each person
Camera and gear
- Binoculars: the single most useful item for birds and distant animals.
- Camera with a zoom lens: phones struggle beyond a few metres. If you bring a DSLR or a big lens, tell us while booking so we can check any camera charge.
- Power bank and spare batteries: cold mornings drain batteries fast.
- A small backpack to keep everything together in the jeep.
Health and comfort
- Mosquito repellent
- Your regular medicines, and something for motion sickness if needed
- A government photo ID for each adult
- Some cash, as card and UPI may not work everywhere around the forest
What to leave at home
- Strong perfume or deodorant spray
- Plastic bags and packaged snacks with loud wrappers
- Speakers or loud music
Inside the forest, keep your voice low, stay seated in the jeep and follow your guide. Never feed or call out to animals.
