A jungle trip can be the highlight of a child's year, or a long, tiring drive. The difference is in the planning. Dudhwa works well for families because it is calm, uncrowded and, if you stay close to the gate, easy on small travellers. Here is how to plan it.
Why Dudhwa works for families
- Short hop to the gate: at DTR Jungle Hideaways the Kishanpur safari gate is 2-3 minutes away, not a long pre-dawn drive.
- Calm forest: far fewer jeeps than busier parks, so drives are quieter.
- Something for every age: tigers and elephants for older children, deer, birds and butterflies for younger ones.
- Space to run around: the resort garden, gazebo and evening bonfire keep kids busy between safaris.

Where the family stays
Our AC Family Cottage sleeps 5 as standard and up to 6, so a family of four or five can stay together. AC Deluxe Rooms take 3 as standard and up to 4. Breakfast is included when you book directly.
Children's meal plans are priced by age group, lower than adult rates. Enter the children's ages in our instant quote and it calculates the total.

A family-friendly 2-night plan
- Day 1: arrive by lunch, rest, then an afternoon Kishanpur safari. Bonfire and dinner.
- Day 2: morning Kishanpur safari, the best tiger shift. Breakfast, rest and play at the resort. Optional afternoon Rhino Area ride by vehicle in Dudhwa Zone 1.
- Day 3: bird walk in the resort garden, breakfast and checkout.
With younger children, skip one morning safari and keep the afternoon shift, which is warmer in winter.
Getting there with kids
From Delhi NCR it is about 7 hours by road. Many families prefer an overnight train to Bareilly or Shahjahanpur, with our pickup from the station, so children sleep through most of the journey. From Lucknow, see how to reach Dudhwa from Lucknow.
Tips for a calm safari with children
- Brief kids before the drive: stay seated, speak softly, no shouting at animals.
- Carry quiet snacks and water in a small bag.
- Give older children binoculars and a bird checklist; it keeps them looking, not asking "when will we see a tiger?"
- In winter, dress children in layers, with a cap and gloves for the open jeep.
- Set expectations: animals are wild and sightings are never guaranteed.
